Presley & Taylor: Redefining the “Kind of Girl” in Country Music

Presley & Taylor are a sister duo making their mark in the country music scene, but they don’t fit the usual mold—and that’s exactly their strength. Raised in coastal Connecticut, they’ve blended their northern roots with Nashville’s storytelling soul, creating a sound that’s authentic, fresh, and full of heart. Their upcoming single, “Kind of Girl” (releasing August 15), challenges country stereotypes by embracing who they truly are: black-haired, coffee-loving, pizza-eating sisters who have never been afraid to stand out. Working with producer Andrew Baylis (Jelly Roll, Koe Wetzel, Bailey Zimmerman), this new project is a leap forward for them both creatively and personally.

Inside the Episode

In our latest episode of The Chris & Sandy Show, we caught up with Presley & Taylor to talk about life on the road, love, the grind of the industry, and the inspiration behind “Kind of Girl.”

They shared how the song began, ironically from a tune one of their fiancés had written about the “typical” country girl. Instead of brushing it off, they turned the idea into their own anthem, showing that country music has room for every story, not just the clichés.

From there, we dove into:

  • Growing up in a musical family and the unexpected country fan base in New England.
  • Life on a tour bus (with their dad as the driver!) and the family-like bond with their band.
  • The hard truths of Nashville, the grind, the sacrifices, and the reality that success doesn’t always come on your timeline.
  • Protecting their relationships in the public eye by keeping certain parts of their lives private.
  • Their dreams for the next 5, 10, and even 20 years, and how success, for them, is about providing for others as much as themselves.

Lessons We Learned from Presley & Taylor

  1. Authenticity Wins Every Time
Presley & Taylor’s refusal to fit a stereotype shows that staying true to yourself not only makes for better art, it builds a stronger connection with your audience.
  2. Work Ethic Matters More Than Timing
In Nashville, talent is essential, but they reminded us that grit and perseverance are what keep you going when the big breaks feel far away.
  3. Protect What Matters Most
Whether it’s family, relationships, or your creative vision, they stressed the importance of guarding what’s valuable and not letting outside noise change your core.
  4. It Takes a Village
From their band members to their publicist, Presley & Taylor credit their success to the incredible team around them, people who believe in them for the right reasons.
  5. Never Stop Choosing the Dream
Like a marriage, they said, music is something you have to choose every single day, even in the moments when quitting feels easier.

Presley & Taylor’s journey is a reminder that you don’t need to look or live like the stereotype to make your mark in country music. What matters most is telling your story honestly, surrounding yourself with the right people, and never losing sight of why you started in the first place.
