Country artist Mary Kutter returned to The Chris & Sandy Show for a conversation that went far beyond music promotion. It became a deeper look at consistency, creative identity, social media growth, songwriting, faith, family, and the kind of long-term work most people never see.

Mary shared how much has changed since her last appearance on the show. She has signed a record deal, begun work on her debut album, opened major shows, built momentum online, and continued developing the raw, honest storytelling that has helped separate her voice in country music.

One of the strongest themes of the conversation was authenticity. Mary talked about the importance of telling the truth in songs, not simply chasing rhymes, melodies, or commercial formulas. Her music connects because it feels lived-in. It carries the weight of Kentucky, hard work, family roots, heartbreak, survival, and determination.

She also opened up about the grind behind the growth. During one stretch, Mary completed 452 songwriting sessions. She built a daily routine around early mornings, writing, reading, running, studying music, and posting consistently online. That discipline helped create the foundation for viral moments, industry attention, and eventually a record deal with BBR/Broken Bow Records.

The most powerful moment came when Mary explained that some industry conversations leaned toward making her music “safer” or more “down the middle.” But BBR saw something different. They did not want to water her down. They wanted her to stay herself and elevate what was already there.

That is why this interview matters. It is not just about a country artist on the rise. It is about what happens when talent meets discipline, when authenticity meets opportunity, and when someone refuses to lose their voice just because bigger doors start opening.

Lessons From Mary Kutter

1. Stay True to Who You Are

As opportunities grow, there can be pressure to become what others think you should be. Mary shared that one of the reasons she chose her label partner was because they didn’t try to change her. Instead, they wanted to elevate what already made her unique.

The lesson is simple but powerful: success should never require you to lose yourself. The right people will help strengthen your voice, not replace it.

“They didn’t try to water me down. They just wanted to elevate it.”

2. Consistency Creates Opportunity

Many people see the breakthrough but miss the years of preparation that made it possible. Mary talked about posting content consistently, writing songs daily, and showing up long before major opportunities arrived.

Success often looks sudden from the outside, but it is usually built one day at a time through small, repeated actions.

“I posted every single day.”

3. Focus on What You Can Control

When the world shut down during the pandemic, uncertainty affected nearly everyone. Mary shared advice her father gave her during that season: focus on what you can control.

For Mary, that meant writing songs. Rather than worrying about things outside her influence, she invested her energy into developing her craft.

It’s a lesson that applies far beyond music. When life feels uncertain, progress often begins by taking ownership of the things within your reach.

“What do you have control over during this time? Do that.”

4. The Work Nobody Sees Matters Most

One of the most eye-opening moments in the conversation came when Mary revealed she completed more than 450 songwriting sessions in a single year.

Most people never see the countless hours spent learning, practicing, refining, and improving. Yet those unseen hours are often what create the opportunities everyone notices later.

The spotlight may arrive unexpectedly, but preparation rarely does.

“I wrote 452 songwriting sessions.”

5. Every View Represents a Person

In today’s digital world, creators often become discouraged when content doesn’t perform as well as they hoped. Mary discussed a perspective that changed her thinking.

A friend reminded her that 10,000 views still represents 10,000 real people. That’s more people than many artists will ever perform in front of at one time.

Behind every number is a human being.

“There are people. It’s not just numbers.”

6. Great Teams Elevate Great Talent

Mary repeatedly gave credit to the people around her—from co-writers and musicians to managers, producers, and label executives.

While talent matters, growth often happens faster when surrounded by people who believe in your vision and challenge you to become better.

No meaningful success story is ever completely solo.

“They don’t try to smooth out the edges. They just try to elevate it.”

7. Truth Connects More Than Perfection

One of the defining characteristics of Mary’s music is her commitment to authenticity. She believes listeners connect with honesty more than polished perfection.

Whether it’s music, business, leadership, faith, or relationships, people are drawn to what’s real.

The stories that resonate most deeply are often the ones that tell the truth.

“There is something about just telling the truth.”

The Single Biggest Lesson

If there is one lesson that rises above all the others, it is this:

Stay true to your voice and keep doing the work.

Mary Kutter’s journey is a reminder that success is rarely about shortcuts. It comes from consistently showing up, improving your craft, embracing your authentic self, and trusting the process long before the results become visible.

Her story proves that when preparation meets opportunity, remarkable things can happen.

When actress and producer Sydney Mikayla joined us on The Chris & Sandy Show, the conversation turned into one of those interviews that goes deeper than expected. What started as a discussion about her new film Crybaby Bridge quickly became a real talk about the grind of the entertainment industry, the importance of family support, and why success almost never happens overnight.

Sydney is best known to many fans as Trina Robinson on General Hospital, a role that earned her two Daytime Emmy nominations, but her story goes far beyond one show. From acting as a child to producing her own projects, she’s built a career by doing exactly what she talked about in this interview — showing up, doing the work, and creating opportunities instead of waiting for them.

This episode is one of those conversations that anyone chasing a dream can relate to, whether you’re in entertainment or not.

Talking About Crybaby Bridge and Taking Control of Her Career

Sydney joined us to talk about her upcoming thriller film Crybaby Bridge, releasing March 26, where she not only stars but also serves as a producer. She explained that one of the reasons the project meant so much to her was the depth of the character and the chance to take on a more challenging role.

She shared that as an actor, getting a role that requires emotional range and real work is something you don’t take for granted. But stepping into producing also taught her an important lesson about today’s entertainment world — you can’t just wait for the phone to ring anymore.

She talked about how more actors are writing, producing, and directing their own projects because the industry has changed. If you want something to happen, sometimes you have to make it happen yourself. sydney-mikayla

That message alone made this episode worth listening to.

From Child Actor to Emmy Nominee

Sydney also took us back to the beginning of her career, including her role in The Gabby Douglas Story, which she said was one of the moments she realized acting could really be her future.

Playing a real person taught her how much research and preparation goes into a role, and it showed her that acting isn’t just about talent — it’s about discipline, learning, and understanding the character.

Later, when she landed the role of Trina Robinson on General Hospital, it didn’t start as a major part. She came in as what’s called a day player, but her performance impressed the producers enough that the role grew.

Her story is a reminder that sometimes the opportunity you’re waiting for starts as something small, and what you do with it determines what happens next. sydney-mikayla

The Side of the Industry People Don’t See

One of the most powerful parts of the interview came when we talked about the struggles behind the scenes.

Sydney was honest about the fact that even after success, the work doesn’t stop. She talked about how people think actors suddenly make it overnight, but the truth is that most people spend years putting in work before anyone notices.

She also shared that moving from being a child actor to an adult in the industry brings a different kind of pressure. When you’re younger, your parents help guide the path. When you get older, the responsibility is on you to figure out what comes next.

That’s something a lot of people can relate to, no matter what career they’re in.

The Team Behind the Success

One thing we always talk about on our show is the team behind the person, and Sydney gave a lot of credit to her parents.

She talked about how being a child actor isn’t possible without family support, because parents are the ones making the sacrifices, changing schedules, traveling, and helping make opportunities happen.

It was a reminder that success is rarely a solo journey.

Even the people you see on TV usually have a whole village behind them.

Lessons From This Episode

This interview had a lot of moments that apply to anyone chasing something bigger in life. Here are a few lessons that stood out.

1. Success rarely happens overnight

People see the big moment, but they don’t see the years of work before it.

2. Show up and give your best, even when the opportunity seems small

Sydney’s role on General Hospital started small, but because she gave it everything, it turned into something bigger.

3. Don’t wait for opportunities — create them

Producing her own projects taught her that sometimes you have to build your own path.

4. Family and support systems matter more than people realize

Behind every success story is usually a group of people who helped make it possible.

5. Keep going even when you can’t see the full path

One of the best lines she shared was about taking one step at a time, even when you don’t know exactly where it’s going to lead.

That’s something everyone needs to hear once in a while.

Why You Should Watch or Listen to This Episode

If you enjoy hearing real stories from people in the entertainment industry, this is a great episode.

If you’re chasing a dream, this is an encouraging episode.

If you like hearing how success actually happens, not just the highlight reel, this is definitely one to watch or listen to.

Sydney Mikayla brought honesty, humor, and a lot of wisdom to the conversation, and those are always the interviews that stick with you the longest.

The platinum-selling artist opens up about identity, sacrifice, purpose, creative freedom, and why following your heart sometimes means starting over.

There are interviews that focus on accomplishments.

Then there are interviews that reveal the person behind those accomplishments.

This conversation with Lindsay Ell belongs firmly in the second category.

While the Canadian singer-songwriter could easily spend an hour discussing hit songs, world tours, and major stages, the most compelling moments came when the spotlight shifted away from music and toward the deeper questions of identity, purpose, and what it means to build a life that feels authentic.

Because sometimes success creates an unexpected challenge:

What happens when the thing that made you successful no longer feels like who you are?

When Success No Longer Fits

For years, Lindsay Ell was known primarily as a country artist.

The success was real. The audience was real. The career was thriving.

But something inside her kept pulling toward another direction.

Pop rock wasn’t a sudden discovery.

It had always been there.

Inspired by artists like John Mayer and Sarah Bareilles, Lindsay carried a different creative vision long before she publicly embraced it.

The challenge wasn’t finding her sound.

The challenge was having the courage to trust it.

She described feeling boxed in creatively, as though certain sounds, lyrics, and expectations had become requirements rather than choices.

Eventually, authenticity became more important than comfort.

Instead of asking what the industry wanted, she started asking what her heart wanted.

That decision changed everything.

The Cost Nobody Talks About

One of the strongest moments of the interview came when Lindsay discussed the sacrifices behind the dream.

Fans often see sold-out shows, major tours, and exciting opportunities.

They rarely see the missed birthdays.

The missed weddings.

The missed funerals.

The friendships that slowly fade because schedules never align.

Success often comes with hidden invoices.

For Lindsay, those invoices have been paid through years of travel, uncertainty, and choosing the road over stability.

Yet despite the sacrifices, she remains deeply committed to the path she chose.

Not because it’s easy.

Because she loves it.

The Question That Doesn’t Have an Answer

Perhaps the most vulnerable part of the conversation centered around a topic affecting millions of people.

Motherhood.

Lindsay openly discussed wrestling with whether she wants children.

Not because she doesn’t value family.

Not because she lacks clarity about what matters.

But because life isn’t always that simple.

Her career demands enormous amounts of time, energy, travel, and focus.

She watches friends successfully balance motherhood and touring, but she also recognizes the realities behind those choices.

Instead of pretending she has the answer, she admitted something many people struggle to say:

“I don’t know.”

That honesty became one of the most powerful moments of the entire interview.

In a culture obsessed with certainty, there is something refreshing about someone willing to sit inside the question.

Purpose Beyond the Stage

Awards matter.

Hits matter.

Career milestones matter.

But Lindsay seemed most energized when discussing service.

After sharing her survivor story publicly, she launched the Make You Movement and began working alongside organizations helping women and children facing difficult circumstances.

Through those experiences, she discovered something profound.

Helping others often changes the helper.

The humanitarian award she received was meaningful not because of recognition, but because it reflected the impact she hopes her platform can create.

Her goal isn’t simply to build a career.

It’s to build a legacy.

Starting Over Takes Courage

One of the most relatable sections of the interview came when Lindsay discussed rebuilding.

Many people assume success eliminates financial concerns.

Reality is often different.

Changing musical directions meant taking risks.

It meant making difficult business decisions.

It meant becoming more involved in budgeting, finances, and operations than ever before.

At times, she had to ask herself a difficult question:

How badly do you want this?

Her answer became clear.

Whatever it takes.

That mindset may be the defining characteristic of her journey.

Why This Conversation Matters

At its core, this interview is not about music.

It’s about authenticity.

It’s about courage.

It’s about being willing to evolve.

It’s about choosing purpose over comfort and growth over certainty.

Whether someone is building a business, raising a family, pursuing a dream, or simply trying to discover who they are, Lindsay’s story offers a reminder that reinvention is not failure.

Sometimes reinvention is exactly what growth requires.

LESSONS WE LEARNED FROM THIS CONVERSATION

Lesson 1

Authenticity Often Costs More Than Conformity

Most people assume success creates freedom.

Sometimes it creates expectations.

Lindsay had already established herself in country music when she felt called toward a different creative direction. Walking away from familiarity wasn’t the easy option. It was the risky option.

Yet growth often begins when we stop asking what others expect from us and start asking who we truly are. Authenticity can be expensive, but living disconnected from yourself usually costs even more.

Lesson 2

The Hardest Questions Don’t Always Have Immediate Answers

Modern culture rewards certainty.

Life often doesn’t.

One of the most compelling moments came when Lindsay discussed motherhood and admitted she simply didn’t know what she wanted. There was no polished answer. No perfect resolution.

Sometimes wisdom isn’t finding the answer. Sometimes wisdom is having enough maturity to sit honestly inside the question.

Lesson 3

Reinvention Requires Courage

Many people dream about change.

Few people actually choose it.

Lindsay had already built a successful career, earned hit songs, and established a place in country music. Yet she still felt called toward something different. That’s what makes her story so powerful. She wasn’t changing because she failed. She was changing because she wanted to become more fully herself.

There are seasons in life when success becomes a comfort zone. Reinvention means being willing to risk comfort in pursuit of authenticity. The lesson isn’t about changing careers or musical genres. It’s about having the courage to become who you really are.

Lesson 4

Success Always Has a Price Tag

Most people see the spotlight.

Few see the sacrifices.

Lindsay openly discussed missing birthdays, weddings, funerals, and important moments with family and friends. Those sacrifices rarely appear on social media, yet they are often part of building something meaningful.

This lesson applies far beyond entertainment. Every dream demands something. The important question isn’t whether you’ll pay a price. It’s whether the dream is worth the price you’re paying.

Lesson 5

Purpose Makes Success Meaningful

Achievement alone rarely creates fulfillment.

Purpose does.

One of the most inspiring parts of the interview was hearing Lindsay discuss her humanitarian work and the Make You Movement. She didn’t view success as an end point. She viewed it as a platform.

The people who leave the deepest impact are often those who understand that success is not about accumulating influence. It’s about using influence to help others.

Lesson 6

Growth Happens When You Take Ownership

There was a moment in the conversation when Lindsay talked about becoming deeply involved in the financial side of her business.

For many people, those details seem boring.

Yet growth often happens when we stop outsourcing responsibility for our lives.

Instead of hoping things worked out, she learned the numbers. She learned the business. She became more involved than ever before. That willingness to take ownership transformed fear into empowerment.

The lesson is simple but powerful: what you take responsibility for becomes something you can improve.

Lesson 7

“Whatever It Takes” Is More Than Motivation

Many people say they want something.

Fewer people are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it.

During difficult seasons, Lindsay found herself asking a question many dreamers eventually face:

How badly do you want this?

The answer wasn’t found in a motivational quote. It was found in her actions. Budgeting better. Rebuilding. Adjusting. Working harder. Staying committed.

Perseverance isn’t an emotion. It’s a decision repeated over and over again.

THE SINGLE BIGGEST LESSON FROM THIS INTERVIEW

If someone remembers only one thing from this conversation five years from now, it should be this:

Authenticity is worth the risk.

Lindsay’s story is not primarily about music. It is about choosing truth over comfort.

She could have stayed where she was. She could have continued doing what was familiar. Instead, she chose uncertainty because she knew staying disconnected from her authentic self would cost even more.

The older we get, the more tempting it becomes to stay where things feel safe. Yet nearly every meaningful transformation begins when someone decides that being true to themselves matters more than staying comfortable.

That lesson applies to careers, relationships, faith, purpose, leadership, and life itself.

Lessons Summary

The seven lessons from this interview are deeply connected.

Authenticity leads to reinvention.

Reinvention requires courage.

Courage demands sacrifice.

Sacrifice becomes sustainable when connected to purpose.

Purpose creates fulfillment.

Fulfillment comes from ownership.

Ownership fuels perseverance.

Together, these lessons tell the story of someone still growing, still learning, and still becoming.

And that’s exactly why this conversation remains valuable.

Why It Still Matters Today

The world changes.

Human struggles do not.

Questions about identity, purpose, family, career, sacrifice, and fulfillment remain timeless.

That makes this conversation just as valuable years from now as it is today.

Some conversations stay with you long after the microphones are turned off.
Our conversation with Bonnie Keen was one of those.

Bonnie is a Dove Award–winning artist, author, and a founding member of the Grammy-nominated trio First Call, but this episode wasn’t about accolades or highlights. It was about story. The real kind. The kind shaped by pain, perseverance, faith, and a long road of obedience.

Click the video below to watch the interview:

What unfolded was an honest and deeply moving look at how God redeems broken places and how courage is often formed quietly, over time.

A Childhood Marked by Trauma, and a God Who Drew Near

Bonnie shared something many listeners may not have known: she grew up in an abusive home. Fear was normal. Pain was familiar. And yet, even in that darkness, God began reaching her heart in an unexpected way, through music.

Before theology. Before language for faith. Before understanding Grace.
Music became the place where she first sensed that God was not distant or cruel, but loving.

Lesson:
God often meets us before we know how to name Him. He is not waiting for us to have it all figured out before He draws near.

Faith Is a Journey, Not a Switch

One of the most powerful themes of the episode was Bonnie’s reminder that faith unfolds over time. She spoke candidly about how healing, forgiveness, and spiritual growth didn’t happen overnight. Abuse, divorce, depression , these weren’t moments she “moved past,” but places God walked her through.

She emphasized something many believers forget: sanctification is a process.

Lesson:
Your story doesn’t disqualify you. It shapes you. God is patient, and transformation is rarely instant.

When Success Disappears and the Crowd Gets Quiet

Bonnie also spoke openly about her years of success in Christian music, and the shock of discovering how fragile that success can be. When public scandal struck her group through no fault of her own, opportunities vanished almost overnight. Friends disappeared. Doors closed.

It was lonely. Humbling. Clarifying.

Lesson:
Platform is not the same as calling. Success can amplify your voice, but it cannot sustain your faith.

Courage With Wobbly Knees: Living “Gethsemane Brave”

The phrase “Gethsemane Brave” came up repeatedly, and it became the heartbeat of the conversation. For Bonnie, courage isn’t loud or fearless. It’s choosing obedience when fear is still present. It’s staying faithful when comfort would be easier.

She tied this courage to her work with Christian Solidarity International, helping raise awareness for persecuted Christians around the world who live out their faith at great personal cost.

Lesson:
Biblical courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s faith that moves forward anyway.

The Power of Community and the Importance of Team

Bonnie was quick to acknowledge that she didn’t survive or thrive alone. From close friendships and prayer groups to mentors and collaborators, she credited her community with holding her up in moments she couldn’t stand on her own.

Faith, she reminded us, was never meant to be lived in isolation.

Lesson:
Healing happens faster and deeper when we let trusted people walk with us.

A Definition That Says It All

When asked who she is, Bonnie’s answer was simple and profound:
A child of God. Loved by the Father. Saved by the Son. A survivor in Christ. Grateful.

No résumé. No titles. Just identity.

Lesson:
At the end of the day, who we are in Christ matters far more than what we accomplish for Him.

Why This Conversation Matters

This episode wasn’t about promoting an album or revisiting a career. It was about testimony. About scars that still carry hope. About choosing courage in a world that often rewards silence.

Bonnie Keen’s story reminds us that faith is forged in real life, in pain, perseverance, obedience, and grace.

And sometimes, the bravest thing we can do is keep going.

Some conversations stay with you long after the recording ends. Our recent episode with Jet Jurgensmeyer was one of those.

On the surface, Jet’s story looks like momentum, success, and steady growth. A rising independent country artist. An award-nominated actor. Millions of streams. Touring shows. New music dropping.

But what made this 33-minute conversation special wasn’t the resume. It was the honesty.

Jet joined us to talk about his new single, “Prove Me Wrong,” but what unfolded was a raw look at faith, identity, rejection, and the long road that most people never see.

He shared how the song was written during a heavy season for the country, not as a commercial move, but as a way to process what he was feeling. At one point, he said the song was never even meant to be released. It was written because he needed to write it. That alone says a lot about the kind of artist he is becoming.

As the conversation unfolded, Jet opened up about the years of grind behind the moments people celebrate now. Playing two-hour shows for three people. Writing songs that never see the light of day. Auditions that feel perfect but go nowhere. Doors that stay shut longer than expected.

And yet, there was no bitterness in his voice. Only perspective.

Lessons from the Episode

1. The grind builds what the spotlight reveals
Jet talked about playing dive bars where no one clapped because they were watching football. Those moments didn’t discourage him. They sharpened him. He learned how to hold a room, how to earn attention, and how to keep going even when validation was absent. Success didn’t change him. It exposed the work that had already been done.

2. Authenticity matters more than perfection
One of the most powerful moments came when Jet talked about listening back to his older music and cringing a little. Not because it was bad, but because it reflected who he was then. Growth changes your voice, your writing, and your perspective. And that’s not something to hide. It’s proof you’re alive and evolving.

3. “No” is not failure, it’s training
Jet was honest about how often rejection shows up in both music and acting. Songs that feel like hits never get recorded. Auditions that feel perfect end in silence. But every “no” taught him something. Every rejection built resilience. And every yes felt more meaningful because of it.

4. Identity has to exist beyond performance
Growing up in entertainment forced Jet to wrestle with a question many people never have to ask: Who am I when I’m not performing? He talked about learning to separate the character from the person, and how family and close relationships keep him grounded when the noise gets loud.

5. Faith is not a phase, it’s a foundation
Throughout the conversation, faith wasn’t presented as a buzzword or a brand. It was simply part of how Jet lives and makes decisions. Trusting timing. Believing the process has purpose. Remembering where he started so he never forgets what matters.

Why This Episode Matters

This episode isn’t just for fans of country music or acting. It’s for anyone who has ever felt stuck in the middle. Anyone who has worked hard while feeling unseen. Anyone who has wondered if the long road is worth it.

Jet’s story reminds us that calling and career aren’t always the same thing. That growth takes time. And that sometimes the moments that feel the smallest are shaping us for what comes next.

If you’re chasing something meaningful, this is a conversation worth listening to.

You can listen to the full episode now on the podcast.
